The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is a premier Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which was founded in 1991 and registered in Kenya in 1994 with a mandate to entrench human rights and democratic values in the society. The KHRC envisions a human rights state and society with a mission to foster human rights, democratic values, human dignity and social justice. This vision and mission is driven by the goal and new mandate of enhancing human rights centred governance at all levels.

Contractual Period: One year renewable contract, which is subject to performance and funding.
Target Group: National, regional and international levels state and non-state actors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Programmes, the post holder will:-
Monitoring and documenting the emerging violations and governance issues in the society;Assessing and responding to the state human rights actors’ response to emerging human rights and governance issues.Ensuring timely and effective response by KHRC and other human rights movement-led interventions.Facilitating public participation, support and action on emerging human rights issues.Coordinating urgent actions, rapid responses and other interventions on emerging human rights issues.Promoting positive public perception of the human rights sector (institutions and workers).Advocating for a responsive regulatory framework for the human rights and civil society sectors.Identifying opportunities for engaging with Human Rights Treaty bodies relevant to Kenya and KHRC’s mandate.Ensuring timely reporting and accountability in line with KHRC’s schedules and policies.Undertaking other tasks and interventions as may be assigned from time to time by your immediate supervisor.A degree in law, political science or international relations.Strong understanding of the national, regional and international human rights and governance issues and mechanisms.At least 3-4 years’ experience working on human rights and governance issues in the society.Proven track record in undertaking research, policy/legislative work and advocacy on governance and human rights issues.Demonstrable experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods including experience of developing human rights-based indicatorsDemonstrable experience working with or coordinating partners with community andnational levels organizations and networksCapacity to organise all relevant logistics to effectively carry out the responsibilities abovePassionate and committed to human rights including respect for diversity, integrity and transparency.Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player.Results-driven, flexible, analytical and a practical problem solver.Demonstrates openness to change and ability to manage complexities.How to Apply If you believe you fit the profile, submit your application and CV detailing your suitability for the post and including daytime telephone contact and three referees, preferably your current or previous line managers to vacancies@khrc.or.ke quoting the title of the position you are applying for in the subject line.
