Project Assistant: Community Led Total Sanitation

For nearly 50 years, SNV has been at the forefront of development,helping to build local capacity and empower local families and communities to break the cycle of poverty. We are present on the ground in 38 developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and operate in Agriculture & Food Security, Renewable Energy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. Our more than 1,000 advisors in the field come from a variety of cultural and technical backgrounds, and over 80 per cent are nationals of the countries   where we work.Starting in early 2014, SNV will enter into a RBF contract with DFID to scale-up our Sustainable Sanitation and Hygiene for All (SSH4A) approach across a series of countries in an effort to improve access to sanitation for millions of people around the world. The SSH4A approach will be implemented in nine countries in Africa and Asia (Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nepal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia). The SSH4A Approach combines work on demand creation -mostly through Community Lead Total Sanitation (CLTS)- sanitation supply chains, hygiene behavioural change communication (BCC) and governance.  The key results of this program will be to increase the number of ODF communities, expand access to sanitation and hygiene
promotion activities, expand access to and improve sanitation facilities, and to increase the numbers of individuals practicing good sanitation hygiene.  Program success will rely on measurable impact at the country level. The Project Assistant CLTS will report to and support the WASH Advisor CLTS, SSH4A Results Programme in strengthening capacity for steering and implementation of sanitation demand creation activities. This will require frequent interaction with the implementing teams in the districts.Support the process to develop Sanitation Demand Creation toolkits;Participate and support CLTS training/reflection workshops;Support capacity strengthening initiatives for district level implementers;Support monitoring and evaluation processes for the CLTS implementation at various levels;Undertake administrative tasks in planning and facilitating CLTS workshops;Support district teams in planning and accounting for triggering and post triggering activities;Provide editorial and compilation support in the development of informed choice materials;Other duties as may be assigned by the AdvisorThe Project Assistant CLTS will work closely with the SSH4A Results Programme team.Degree in public health, environmental health or related field;At least 1 year working experience with involvement in CLTS or demand creation campaigns;Working knowledge of CLTS approaches and methodology and/or other sanitation demand creation activities in Africa;Excellent learning and communication skills;Experience working with local communities.Please apply by clicking on the apply button and completing your application in our in-house recruitment system before 30th May, 2014 with position title as reference.More information about SNV Country
