newkenya Job Description Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Group Technology & Operations (GTO) has created a functional model which aligns to the key principles outlined under the Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC). The operating model has 3 distinct functions: Engineering; Build; Run. The Run organisation has responsibility for the execution, control and continuous improvement of processes to support our Products & Clients. ‘Markets, Wealth and Securities is one of three functional segments within the RUN organisation.
This role has governance responsibility for all MWS processing activities across Africa with the responsibility of building the right risk culture and standardised processes across the region.
Proactively identify and assess both current and horizon risk associated with the Markets, Wealth & Securities products focusing on Technology and Operations processes, people and systems to establish best in class risk management
Work with the Engineering and Build teams to ensure remediation of defects and build a sustainable, well-controlled business. This should include the approval of all new controls for process- and system roll-outs across Markets, Wealth & Securities Technology & Operations
Ensure transparency and appropriate escalation of risks associated with the Markets, Wealth & Securities products through the relevant risk forums including the product PGCs and Technology & Operations risk forums
This role has supervisory responsibilities and therefore the Bank’s supervisory principles must be followed.Strategy
• Ensure that minimum control and working standards are maintained for functions within MWS structure
• Represent MWS for the region in various country-level initiatives and forums for Group
• Aide in deriving the right location and footprint with the Group Functional Heads
• Ensure the business continuity and the business continuity plan, load balancing etc are driven for MWS working closely with the Operational Risk office
• Ensure Service Level Agreements are implemented with all service providers; Undertake frequent Service Review Meetings to ensure adherence to the terms and conditions outlined in the SLABusiness
• Maintain appropriate fiscal rigour around financial expenditure, reviewing monthly financial performance and understanding the performance drivers
• Lead the stakeholder engagement to seek timely inputs, participate in developing business strategy and derive feed back on functional performance
• Establish an appropriate support model that enables service clients
• Point of escalation for  MWS operations within the Africa Region
• Administrative responsibility for the MWS GSSC Malaysia Operations

People and Talent
• Build and develop a high performing functional management team to support the operations
• Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values.  Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
• Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development, ensure that direct reports are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
• Employ, engage and retain high quality people.
• Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.

Risk Management
• Developing Key Performance & Risk based metrics which enable internal clients (Business, Product & Country Heads) to demonstrate effective governance and oversight on outsourced processes
• Proactive in seeing regular assurance that areas of responsibility are performing to an acceptable risk and control standard
• Act quickly and decisively when any risk and control weakness becomes apparent and ensure they are addressed within an appropriate timeframe and escalated through the relevant committees
• Balance business performance delivery and cost management with risk and control matters to ensure that it does not materially threaten the Group remaining within risk appetite
• Represent MWS in management forums including CORC
• Work with the Run teams across Markets, Wealth & Securities Technology & Operations both in the hub and in country to review the appropriateness of the process design keeping standardisation, control, client service and simplicity at the root of all processes
• Identify process defects and control gaps including assessment of the risk associated with the defect. Work with the Run and Engineering teams to rectify any gaps, including assessing the appropriateness of in-country operations
• Prepare a quarterly view of trends across Markets, Wealth & Securities arising from audits and peer reviews to share learning and proactively identify and rectify the same issues in others products/ countries
• For all audits rated as Fail or Improvement Required work with the business to:
1) Perform root cause analysis
2) Identify other products/ countries potentially impacted by each finding and get attestation of compliance or agree actions to bring that area into compliance
3) Update CST/ KCI and peer review schedules to ensure we are proactively testing the issues identified in audit
4) Update audit trends to raise awareness of audit findings

• Raise Risk Awareness. Contribute to the regular review and update of materials aimed at raising risk awareness and instilling understanding of minimum standards of risk governance across the bank. Work on developing appropriate training and risk awareness material to culturally improve risk awareness within the region.

Governance
• Developing, implementing and ensuring adherence to the Supervisory Oversight by Country MWS heads.  Contribute in SRM meetings coordinated by Country management on service performance as defined in the Service Level Agreements
• Prepare a quarterly heat map of risk by country and product using key risk indicators and country context metrics to proactively highlight areas of concern
• Proactively contribute towards risks and controls globally to improve the overall health state of the risk management and operating framework
• Review and approve the adequacy of controls for all new processes and systems
• Review and approve the design of Control Sample Tests for all new processes
• Produce regular trend analysis of exceptions and identify systemic failures
• Work closely with Audit and Operational Risk on validating Process Design, and demonstrating effective measurement of business process.
• Embed the Group’s values and code of conduct to ensure that adherence with the highest standards of ethics, and compliance with relevant policies, processes and regulations among employees form part of the culture.

Market Knowledge:
- awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the firm operates
- Understanding of a broker dealer environment and key associated market risks
Business Strategy and Model:
- awareness and understanding of the firm’s business strategy and model appropriate to the role
- Track record in delivering continuous improvement
Risk Management and Control:
- The ability to identify, assess, monitor, control and mitigate risks to the firm. Also, an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the firm and the role the individual plays in managing them
Financial Analysis and Control:
- the ability to interpret the firm’s financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures
Governance, Oversight and Controls:
- the ability to assess the effectiveness of the firm’s arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls in the business and, if necessary, oversee changes in these areas
Team Management:
- Proven experience managing a high performing team in similar functions.
