Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the above Fixed Term position of Education Officer in UNICEF Kenya Country Office.

Purpose of the Post:  Under the overall guidance of the Education specialist in Nairobi, the incumbent will support UNICEF’s education emergency response along with mainstreaming DRR and Peacebuilding education in Kenya. 

The incumbent will contribute in assessing the emergency situation and develop proposal for fund raising. Also responsible for implementation and monitoring of the emergency response programmes  Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in Program Planning and implementation: Assist the Education specialist in planning and implementing emergency related program including EPRP (maintaining minimum level of preparedness and response to any emergencies happening in Kenya), DRR and Peace Education, support field offices in emergency planning and response.

Programming Monitoring and Management of Information: Monitor education in emergencies, DRR and Peace Education interventions and programs for refugee and Kenyan children, conduct regular field visits to monitor soft interventions as well as monitoring supply availability and its use. Coordinates with Cluster Information Management Officer/ UNHCR / UNICEF Field Offices and OCHA to collect updated information on the emergency situation, coverage and gaps. 
Collects monthly reports from the partners and maintain / updated progress on ground against individual project milestones, analyses the gaps and resource requirements, provides information to contribute to the sitreps, donor reporting and prepares funding proposals for emergency. Keeps track of refugee situation, needs, gaps and response and contributes to reporting.

Cluster Coordination: Participates in the National Education Cluster and other meetings on behalf of the section and ensure that UNICEF’s point of view is well presented. In the absence of Cluster Coordinator, works as Cluster Coordinator. Coordinates with the Directorate of Field and Other Services Cluster on emergency related matters.

Assisting Partnerships: Assist in expanding and further engaging education in emergencies, DRR and Peace Education partners to effectively respond to the humanitarian needs including national/local authorities, and national and international NGOs. Works closely with field offices and county directors’ offices in the disaster affected counties to ensure timely response, as well as with colleagues from other sectors such as WASH, child protection to establish synergy and program convergence on ground.

Supplies Planning and Management: Plan all supplies in the beginning of the year, including those required for prepositioning for any emergency response, maintain inventory record, distribution based on complete documentation, and replenishment, if required. Work closely with the Supply Section to ensure timely procurement and delivery of supplies.

Identifying Cross Cutting Issues: Ensure that cross-cutting issues including gender are identified and included in the education in emergencies response strategy in accordance with existing and emergent needs.
 

Required Qualifications: University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Education; Primary Education, Economics, Social Sciences, or a field(s) relevant to international development assistance.

Experience:
