Senior Manager: Programme and fund management

KPMG’s International Development Advisory Services Unit (IDAS) is a KPMG Centre of Excellence (CoE) in development advisory work on the continent. KPMG IDAS has adopted a pan-African approach to development work, employing full-time experienced development experts within the KPMG Africa team at our headquarters in Nairobi, together with a network of champions across the twenty countries of KPMG in sub-Saharan Africa.KPMG IDAS Africa coordinates projects throughout Africa to ensure consistency of delivery, results and development impact. Typically, we assemble teams of senior professionals that comprise specialised development expertise combined with core KPMG knowledge in financial and risk management.The core pillar of our work is programme and fund management of large donor funded programmes and due to continued growth, we are now looking to recruit a Senior Manager to be based in Nairobi, Kenya with a regional mandate.Key roles and responsibilitiesThis position is a high level position within IDAS and will report directly to a director/partner.·Lead and manage teams on KPMG-managed donor development programmes and challenge funds with particular emphasis on ensuring adequate risk management and successful delivery of outcomes and impact;Responsible for managing the fund management delivery cycle within programme management assignments, from initiation, selection, contracting, implementation and closure;Responsible for managing contracts, budgets and financial reports for programmes;Liaise effectively with programme and technical teams and manage input from technical experts on wider programme management assignments;Establish and maintain effective working relationships with donors and clients and serve as primary liaison and representation to donors in key programme meetings;Ensure adherence to KPMG policies and standards especially on risk management and engagement management;Identify opportunities and develop competitive high quality proposals for programme and fund management opportunities;Develop new approaches and continuous development and innovation in programme management processes and systems;Develop relevant internal programme and fund management training programmes;Contribute to other relevant internal initiatives relating to IDAS programme delivery;Provide mentoring and professional development support to IDAS programme staff;Support the IDAS director/partner in overall management of the Programme and Fund management service delivery function and operational systems to ensure harmonization and consistency within IDAS service delivery; andParticipate in IDAS strategy and marketing initiativesBachelor’s degree from a reputable university;Professional qualifications; CPA or CA/ACCA;Masters qualifications in international development, social sciences or similar (or substantial relevant work experience);Minimum of 8 years work experience in a reputable professional services firm, large international NGO, bilateral or multilateral development institution, of which at least 5 years’ must be experience of managing development programmes/funds;Understand risks and related relevant controls primarily in the overall programme and fund cycles and effectively mitigates these;Competency in project management, including strategic planning and monitoring & evaluation, and core project management skills;Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments and organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines and resolve conflicting demands;Knowledgeable on current development trends and donor priorities;Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to identify opportunities and develop high quality proposals;Developing staff and providing guidance and technical advice where necessary;Displays curiosity and innovation and possesses well-developed problem solving abilities and strong analytical skills;Willingness to travel throughout Africa;Socially confident, and able to create a strong presence with clients/donors and the KPMG team;Passion and commitment to Africa’s development; andThe ideal candidate must be able to provide support to various management and leadership levels, and work well independently ·A fantastic opportunity to work on exciting development programmes across AfricaContinuous learning and development;Exposure to multi-disciplinary client service teams;International travel; andUnrivalled space to grow and be innovativePlease forward your curriculum vitae giving details of your qualifications and experience quotingIDAS/2014/03 Senior Manager on or before close of business Friday, 4th July 2014todasrecruit@kpmg.co.ke*Only the shortlisted candidates will be contacted*
