Market Access Advisor- Extensive Livestock Value ChainSNV is a Dutch based international Development Organization that provides Capacity Development Services to local institutions and organizations in more than 30 developing countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. SNV supports 3 key sectors/programs namely Agriculture, Water & Sanitation and Renewable Energy.SNV’s Extensive Livestock Programme (which is a subsector of  Agriculture) supports the adoption of commercial fodder production, livestock marketing, and commercial milk production in the ASALs.  Emphasis is placed on creating associations that have a better understanding of the market and can reap the benefits of collective marketing; increased constructive dialogue between market actors, service providers and potential investors in all three supply chains making them more efficient, remunerative and ensuring greater equity in the distribution of benefits. SNV’s strategic focus in the Extensive Livestock Program centres on improved livestock production and marketing through increased  outreach of service provision and creation of an enabling environment.The SNV is currently implementing projects entitled ”Enhancing Community Resilience to Drought through Innovative Market
Based Systems” 
and Promote and Strengthen Enterprises and Market Systems in Drought-Prone ASAL Areas funded by the European Union. These projects will be implemented in 9 counties in the ASAL region of Kenya. The counties are Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Baringo, Tana River, Wajir, Kajiado, Narok and West PokotThe overall objective of these projects is to strengthen the resilience
of drought prone livestock keepers and promoting livestock-based enterprises in the 9 ASAL counties through market-led interventions.Job Description for Market Acess - Extensive LivestockThe position will support realization of the goal to enhance  competitiveness of extensive livestock value chains within ASAL areas; for enhanced incomes/employment and food security through sustainable market systems by:Providing business development services to ASAL based enterprisesBuilding capacity of local service providers and creating linkages with the said enterprisesValue chain development facilitationUndertaking Livestock Market analyses and conducting market linkagesDeveloping new business value propositions to support commercialization of ASAL  The Market access advisor is expected to play a leading in facilitating all livestock enterprise development processes, among others, include:Provides primary technical direction to the program business components that aim to improve the competiveness of the
extensive livestock production, addressing constraints to market access, identify new market channels, and establish linkages between pastoralists, agribusinesses and end markets.Spearhead value chain development and competiveness initiatives within the livestock sector; conducting, value chain
analysis, identify strategic value chain interventions for the program.Provide business advisory services to livestock marketing enterprises during their incubation stages. Support commercialization of Camel milk, fodder and
other ASAL livestock based value chains.Work with livestock enterprises (fodder producers, camel milk livestock marketing enterprises) to develop their capacity to utilize BDS support to identify and respond to business opportunitiesBuild the capacity of partner organizations and local capacity builders in Business Development services skills/knowledgeSupport producer groups, local market associations, market access companies to develop and implement appropriate business plansStrengthen pastoralists, associations/groups and rural enterprises to improve productivity & market access for fodder, cow and camel milkProvide guidance to communities and local authorities in the establishment and effective operation of livestock marketsOversee the work undertaken by consultants and LCBs
and including the required quality deliverables. Identify possible directions and tools to strengthen private companies (Market Access
Companies) and support market players.Monitor documents related to BDS performance, profile relevant BDS case studiesThe right candidate will have:Minimum of 7 years of regional/ international experience in
economic growth, trade, value chain competitiveness, livestock, agricultural development, and/or food security programs.  Preference will be given to those with considerable working experience in pastoral areas.Minimum of 3 years implementing, business development model for livestock sector or other relevant agriculture sector programs in the Horn of Africa or ASAL areas.Demonstrated success in implementing programs aimed at increasing the competitiveness and inclusiveness of value chains.Demonstrate creativity and ability to design systemic interventions in Value chainsDemonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing good/best practices in value chain development that reaches the women, youth, the poor and very poor.A minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or a
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with an additional 7 years’ experience to the required minimum above.Fields of discipline and experience will be from area such as Entrepreneurship Development; BDS; Agriculture; Economics, and Agribusiness etc.Flexible and able to work within challenging environment of the
