Based in Nairobi, Kenya and reporting to the Director of the Investment Bank, the seasoned Brokerage General Manager (GM) will establish and manage the brokerage division.
The brokerage services team will support clients by understanding their varied needs and guiding them toward making the most advantageous investment decisions.Build and develop the investment banking brokerage division ensuring implementation of technology, policy & procedures, the hiring of staff; coordination of activity across support departments such as Finance, Admin., HR, Technology and Risk to ensure the smooth running of the activityDevelop and implement long and short-term strategies for the investment banking brokerage business including preparation of business plans and annual budgetsAchieve business targets in terms of volumes, market share and profitsPlan and implement the brokerage business targeting institutions, corporate bodies and High Net Worth (HNW) individuals as well as significant focus on retail franchise (i.e., targeting the base of the pyramid population)Maintain and develop excellent relationships with key customersFormulate & review training programs and the on-going product/other relevant refreshers for the brokerage team (e.g., Head of Equity & Trading, Head of Fixed Income, Head of Corporate and Institutional Sales and their respective teams)Ensure the business is run in compliance with all internal and regulatory guidelines and regulationsOver day-to-day management of brokerage activities:Conduct research on securities (e.g., local and global equities, fixed income, commodity, structured products, alternative investments)Provide advice and manage individual client portfolios (e.g., composed of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, alternative investments or structured products)Execute transactions on behalf of retail/mass market customers, private clients, corporates, and institutional investors)10 years’ experience within financial markets with at least 5 years’ experience in setting up and building an investment banking brokerage business from the ground upBachelor’s degree in finance, management, accounting, or related field; MBA or masters degree in related field preferredVery strong knowledge of equities and equity related products; some knowledge of fixed income and research an advantageDriven and dynamic personality; strong communication and interpersonal skills; presentation and relationship management skillsExperience with senior management and at board level a plusExperience working with clients from emerging or developing markets a plusIntegrity, proven track record of success and a high energy levelInterested candidates holding the necessary requirements, good performance and / or references are encouraged to apply with detailed CV’s, inclusive of names and contacts of 3 referees, current telephone number and email address by clicking on: GM Brokerage
