education and research in Kenya with a student population of 5,600 and
staff component of 317.

For appointment to the position of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation), a person must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Be at least an Associate Professor with an earned Ph.D. from a recognized University;
- Have at least ten (10) years of academic experience at a senior position in a University setting with a demonstrated capacity for leadership and academic excellence;
- Have excellent understanding of the Kenya Vision 2030;
- Be registered with, and be an active member of professional associations in his/her profession;
- Have the capacity to promote learning in competitive environment through commitment to academic excellence;
- Have held senior administrative posts such as Deputy Principal of a Constituent University College, Principal of Campus, Dean/Director of a Faculty/School or leadership of comparable levels in a university or other institutions;
- Possess an outstanding and internationally recognized scholarship record as evidenced by peer refereed journal publications and university level books or book chapters;
- Have ability and leadership skills to effectively co-ordinate Technology, Innovation and Partnership functions in the University;
- Possess demonstrable knowledge of strategic planning in academic development of the University;
- Be familiar with the national education laws and policies with regard to technology, innovations and patenting;
- Have demonstrated competence in academic leadership in technology, innovation and partnerships;
- Have skills, capacity and determination to initiate and facilitate the development of relevant and quality market driven academic programmes in technology, innovation and partnerships;
- Have excellent analytical, problem solving, decision making, team building, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; and
- Comply with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution
Duties and Responsibilities
Acting under the authority of the Vice-Chancellor, the incumbent will take charge of Technology, Innovation and Partnerships Division with responsibility for research policy development and general oversight of the University’s research activities, postgraduate education, industry liaison, intellectual property and commercialization.
The following are specific duties and responsibilities:-
- Provide leadership in the management of the Planning, Partnerships, Research and innovation activities of the University;
- Promote learning, research, innovation and extension services in the University;
- Coordinate research activities, student attachment and linkages with the industry;
- Develop and implement intellectual property policy as well as oversee linkages and partnerships with other national and international institutions;
- Plan and mobilize resources for teaching, innovation and extension services; and
- Co-ordinate all academic collaborations and linkages with other local/international partners initiating programmes in research, scholarships, student and staff exchange.
Tenure of Office: In accordance with the Universities Act (2012),Kibabii University Charter and Statutes of the University, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation) shall hold office for a period of five (5) years with the possibility of one time renewal for a further term of five years subject to a positive appraisal by the Council.
