Our Client, The Egerton University Sacco Society Limited, which is one of the leading financial Services organizations in Kenya, is a depositing taking Sacco under the auspices of SASRA with over 5000 members seeks to recruit a competent and visionary person as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead a High powered team of managerial and technical experts in the Financial services sector to enhance the value and profitability of its brand and product portfolio for its members and other stakeholders.

The Sacco, whose key objectives among others includes the provision of quality and affordable financial services solutions to its members who are drawn mainly from the Egerton University and other affiliated institutions in Kenya, is situated in Njoro with several branches around the country
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for leading the development and execution of the Sacco’s long term strategy with a view to creating value for members’ investments.
The CEO’s leadership role also entails being ultimately responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing the Sacco’s long and short term plans.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position Chief Executive Officer of Egerton University Sacco Society Limited subject to meeting the minimum qualifications stated below
Main Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer, will be the chief accounting officer of Egerton University Sacco and shall among other roles be responsible for:
- Managing the day to day operations of Egerton University Sacco
- Overseeing the implementation of the Sacco’s Long term Strategy
- Overseeing the Sacco’s legal, regulatory and statutory functions.
- Safeguarding the Sacco’s physical and financial assets.
- Developing and recommending to the Board the Sacco’s short term, medium and Long term Strategies, Business Plans and the Sacco’s annual operating budgets
- Maintaining sound systems of internal control and governance of the Sacco.
- Performing regular monitoring and evaluation of the quality assurance of the Sacco’s operations and respond to internal control recommendations.
- Maintaining a conducive work environment to attract and retain and motivate the best human Resource talent to the Sacco while maintaining a positive corporate culture
- Coordinating and preparing regular business proposals including the periodic review of the Sacco’s strategic Plan, the Sacco’s financial reports and submissions to the Board for consideration and approval
- Preparing and implementing the Sacco’s approved strategic Plan
- Acting as a direct liaison between the Board and management of the Sacco
- Communicating on behalf of the Sacco to members, employees, government authorities, other stakeholders and the public.
- Ensuring the Sacco is appropriately organized and staffed
- Recommending to the Board actions necessary to hire and terminate staff enabling it to achieve the Sacco’s corporate objectives.
- Ensuring that expenditures of the Sacco are managed within the authorized annual budgets
- Identifying, assessing and managing the principal risks of the Sacco.
- Ensuring that effective systems of internal controls and management information systems are in place to enable it to conduct its activities both efficiently and effectively as well as lawfully and ethically
- Ensuring that the Sacco maintains high standards of corporate citizenship and social responsibility
- Keeping abreast with most material undertakings and activities of the Sacco and assess all material external factors affecting the Sacco
- Ensuring that all the necessary business processes and systems are in place to ensure that management and staff of the Sacco are able to make sound and adequately informed choices and decisions
- Ensuring that the Directors are properly informed and provided with sufficient information to enable the Directors to form appropriate and informed judgments and decisions.
- Ensuring the integrity of all public disclosures by the Sacco.
- Acting in concert with the Chairman, to develop the agenda, determine the date, time and location of the Board meetings and Meetings of members
- Ensuring that special meetings of the Board are called when appropriate.
- To sit in the board meetings as an ex-officio member and in board committee meetings where appropriate as determined by the Board
- To abide by all established systems of internal control and authorizations and standards and policies, including its environmental, safety, health and Quality policies of the Sacco.
- To lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws.
- To perform any other duties as may be prescribed by the Board and or by execution of applicable laws
The Person Specification / Requirements
This is a senior managerial position in the organization in which a high level of competence and experience is a requirement.
The successful candidate will possess among others:
- A Masters degree in Business Administration, preferably an MBA from a recognized university and/or a recognized equivalent qualification.
- Have at least 7 years knowledge and experience in a relevant field
- Have a Post graduate qualification in CPA(K) or CPS(K) and be a registered member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and/or ICPSK and/or equivalent professional qualifications and membership in equivalent institutions
- Should have served in a similar or senior management position for at least five years.
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills to create and maintain rapport with all staff and other stakeholders including the Board of Directors.
- Have knowledge and experience in Project Management Review, Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Have working knowledge of the Financial Services sector and solutions
- Should comply with the provisions of Chapter Six (of the Constitution of Kenya 2010) on Leadership and Integrity and more specifically should have a clearance certificates from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, The Tax Compliance Certificate from KRA, Certificate of Good Conduct, Clearance certificates from HELB and CRB
- Must have a good grasp of computer skills and applications of contemporary ICT packages
- Must be able to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment
- Must be able to lead and manage a team to deliver on corporate objectives
- Should demonstrate a strong track record in performance in previous engagements
- Must be a Kenyan citizen aged at least 40 years
