This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and passionate storyteller who wants to support us with improving the quantity and the quality of our English written content across the organisation. This role functions as a focal point and important interface to all our country communications officers / managers and contributes significantly to our global communication strategy and media reach.


Your tasks


  • You play an important role in improving and boosting ethical storytelling within the organisation. You function as focal point, provide training and produce guidelines.

  • You write English articles for our international website and are responsible for final editorial checking and proofreading of other communication output (e.g. articles, reports, social media posts)

  • You actively expand our media presence aiming at more media coverage in the English speaking market through reaching out to media outlets / journalists and being a focal point for international media requests.

  • You collaborate closely with colleagues in the digital communications team and contribute to relaunch and production of the English newsletter.

  • You support and act as focal point for Communication officers / managers in six African countries, providing advice, input to their strategy and training.

Your profile


  • You are a native english speaker and have good verbal and written expression skills. Other languages, e.g. German, French or Portuguese are an asset.

  • You bring established experience in ethical storytelling and overall communication for NGOs. You have experience in writing articles, editing and proofreading texts.

  • You are experienced in supporting and training colleagues and functioning as a focal point for communications advice and strategy input.

  • You have experience in media relations and expanding media coverage.

  • Ideally you have an educational background in journalism or communications and are familiar with platforms / tools such as Wordpress, MailChimp and Access Campaign.

  • You bring interest in development cooperation and Light for the World’s mandate area.
