Our mission at BURN Design Lab is to save lives and forests in the developing world through the design and dissemination of clean burning cookstoves.
We are currently soliciting applications for a person to lead the market research component of a Department of Energy funded project in Kenya. The goal of the project is to design a next-generation clean burning wood cookstove for the rural marketplace. This position will identify and define the target market segments and subsequently collect information on cookstove use, cooking preferences, available fuels, required stove performance, acceptability, ease of use, etc. from the target demographic(s) to inform product specifications and design. The consultant will design and implement a market research campaign including in-home tests, interviews with users and stakeholders (manufacturers, distributors, policymakers, etc.), focus groups and the like. The study must be designed to pass IRB. After this phase the consultant will market test prototypes and concepts developed by the design team and provide feedback to guide their next phase of development. There will be at least two iterations.
