Senior Data Engineer at African Centre for Data Science & Analytics Ltd

African Centre for Data Science and Analytics Ltd is a digital skills training and solutions firm that enables anyone with or without a technical background, and wants to pursue a career in fourth industrial revolution technologies(4IR) to learn the most in-demand technology skills necessary to succeed in the digital age.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• You write code. This is a hands-on Senior Engineer Role


• You lead and mentor a team of BI Data Engineers and Analytical Engineers


• You provide the direction for the development of our Cloud Data


• Warehouse and determine the right tools for the right jobs


• You help further develop our Data Warehouse by building analytical data models and data marts


• You build data models that enable our business stakeholders to make better decisions more efficiently with the help of data


• You build robust data pipelines with the help of graphical ETL/ELT tools such as Dataform, Talend or Dbt.


• You create and maintain architecture and systems documentation


• You maintain a data catalogue to provide a scalable resource to support self-service and single-source-of-truth analytics


• You are the interface between the Data Team and the IT Team

REQUIREMENTS:

• 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, 3+ years of experience as a Team Lead


• You have extensive experience in setting up and managing cloud data warehouses within the GCP environment


• You can identify yourself with our mission to revolutionize access to essential goods and services for communities across Africa and want to make your contribution


• You are excited about the challenges of an e-commerce business such as forecasting demand, optimizing delivery schedules and routing, managing inventory, increasing customer lifetime value, and have ideally gathered first-hand experience in any of these fields


• You have a positive, can-do attitude


• You have extensive knowledge of BI concepts (i.e. ETL/ELT, reverse ETL, dimensional modelling, data warehouse design, self-service BI)


• You have vast experience in database query languages (e.g. SQL), database design and optimizing queries, both in startups/scale-ups and corporate


• Ideally, you have gathered some experience with infrastructure as code software such as Terraform


• Ideally, you have gathered some experience with event streaming and event processing platforms such as Google Dataflow or Apache Kafka
