Lifeskills Promoters (LISP) is a Local charitable Organisation that has been in operation since 1999. LISP empowers young people and their influencers using empowering approaches and life skills as a foundation.
LISP works closely with churches, communities and government departments, corporates and like-minded agencies. LISP works in 7 counties in Kenya.
Lifeskills Promoters (LISP) has been running a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funded program, as the prime recipient to provide support for the OVC project, dubbed “Wezesha project” in Kenya, in partnership with St Johns’ Community Center (SJCC).
This project covers Migori, Kisii and Homabay counties of south Nyanza.
Job Title: Business Development and Marketing Officer
Reporting to: Project Manager
Job Status: Full-time
Location: Oyugis, Homabay County
Job Summary: The Officer will be responsible for implementing activities to improve the livelihood of OVC households in Migori, Kisii and Homabay counties.
The goal of the livelihood work is to increase the household incomes of the OVC in order to enable the guardians to meet the needs of the children in a holistic and sustainable manner.
Major Job Responsibilities and Tasks
- Assess the income levels of OVC households in the 3 counties
- Identify key gaps that hinders the guardians/caregivers from either initiating/advancing their IGA
- Carry out regular rapid assessments to inform employment, market and business opportunities for the caregivers and the youth out of shool in the program.
- Mobilize guardians into small interest groups and work with the groups to build on groups cohesion and build a savings culture
- Deliver trainings to the groups on financial literacy, government tenders and management of small businesses
- Carry out regular rapid market and employment opportunities and strategically link guardians to new and existing markets,, employment opportunities and appropriate skills development pathways in liaison with the County and Sub – county governments
- Guide the guardians and youth out of school in identifying new and developing existing viable and market-led Income Generating Activities (IGAs)
- Initiate and complete proposals/business plans and presentations for guardian groups for new business and tender Opportunities
- Facilitate value chain development activities across the 3 counties
- Facilitate guardians groups to access devolved funds within the counties
- Take lead in monitoring of the guardian groups.
Minimum Qualifications and Competences
- A graduate degree in Economics, Rural Development, marketing, agribusiness, Finance or a related field is required
- Minimum 5 years working experience in livelihoods/household economic strengthening (HES) programming preferably with USAID funded projects
- Previous experience in OVC programming
- Computer proficiency
- Good understanding of public health issues particularly HIV/AIDS.
- Knowledge of and experience in market linkages for rural community grooups.
- Experience working with County and Sub-county levels of government.
- Understanding of the Self-help group (SHG) model of economic empowerment is an added advantage.
