KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide strategic leadership and accountability in partnership development and fundraising from bilateral, multilateral, foundations and other major donors

Lead and facilitate overall EGF relationship development and management with bilateral and multilateral donors across all major fundraising markets.Lead in preparation and submission of proposals. Responsible for leading and overseeing the  preparation of funding proposals, taking them through from idea formation, research, partnership formation/management, writing, revising and finalizing text through to the internal review and external negotiation processes.Develop a healthy individual donor fundraising base.Work with US-based fundraising initiatives and other initiatives that EGF develops around the world to deliver on fundraising targets.Work with the leadership of the foundation and Bank to develop sustainable financing mechanisms

 Lead and manage EGF Fundraising and partnership development strategy, function and team

Develop a short and long term partnerships and fundraising strategy for EGF working with the fundraising team, program leaders, senior staff of the Foundation and Equity Bank and other stakeholders, and ensure that this strategy is fully implemented in line with EGF’s overall mission.Work with the executive team of the EGF to evolve/improve current programs and design new ones that align with our strategy and vision and that are based on changing context, existing project gaps and needs of our target communities.Develop and maintain a fundraising pipeline with specific and clear timelines and with tracking mechanisms to manage all communications and all planned fundraising activities/projects with current and new partners.Develop and lead the fundraising department/team including an annual budget, recruitment, mentoring and performance evaluation processes, and ensuring that target and objectives are met according to plan and budget.Oversee the strengthening and full implementation of donor management systems and processes, including pipeline and information management systems.

Provide oversight on servicing of donor relationships for awarded grants

Provide oversight and Quality control on grants management.  (Grant management responsibility lies primarily with implementing team leaders on the ground, but oversight and quality control is provided by the Fundraising and Strategic Partnership,  particularly with regard to providing on-time high quality reporting to donors and maintaining dialogue with donors over progress and lesson learning.With the Managing director, support management of relationships with High Value Donors, ensuring that information on such donors is always available to them and that potential new leads are followed up.Support program teams in effective donor servicing.  Help strengthen the capacity of Thematic General Managers, Equity Bank subsidiary’s leadership and their respective teams for donor management.Contribute to development, ongoing management and especially, dissemination of findings, best practices and lessons documentation across EGF to enable improved external relationships with partners and donors.Represent EGF at donor and partner events.  Build and maintain a strong and effective network of donor and partner contacts in Nairobi and other capital cities in E. Africa, with support from General Managers, other program colleagues, and other program design staff.

Education

Top class postgraduate qualification (MBA, MSc or PhD) required in relevant field, e.g. economics, business management, international development, communications

Experience

At least 10 years relevant experience of working in a leadership position in development-focused organizations, with over 5-10 years of direct experience in developing and nurturing relationships with development partners and fundraising for development activities in Africa and elsewhere;Demonstrable experience of operating at strategic management level in development organizations or Foundations;Demonstrable experiencing of engaging in high level stakeholder consultation with regards to development in Africa, including donor presentations and policy dialogue;Demonstrable commitment to EGF mission and understanding of issues faced by EGF in delivering its mission.

Skills and Knowledge

Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate and manage partnerships  relationships;Proven leadership and management skills;Proven ability to conceptualize and write project documents and reports;Ability to communicate effectively with a wide group of partners, including proactive sharing of information and reporting;Advanced computer and internet skills;Ability to work as part of a team and to lead a team;Fluency in English essential; fluency in other UN recognized languages a strong advantage.
