1. Internal Audit ManagerReporting to the Treasurer of the ActionAid International Kenya (AAIK) Board and administratively to the Executive Director- AAIK; the Internal Audit Manager shall be responsible for coordinating the internal audit process of AAIK in line with established ActionAid International standards.
In addition, the job entails management of organizational and operational risks including developing and monitoring the risk register,working with project leads on partner organisation’s audit and ensure proper internal control systems within the Country’s Programmes.
Key responsibilities for this position include;
Formulation and implementation of internal audit policies and procedures;Preparing annual internal audit plan which responds to the risk areas within the organisationReview of strategic priorities and activities of AAIK to assess and identify potential risks to the organization;Assessment of internal controls to mitigate business and operational risks;Advising management on effective controls and fraud prevention measures;Coordinating the development of AAIK’s risk register and ensuring that all programmes and support units have risk registers;Reviewing the implementation of the action points in the risk register for AAIK, functional units and projects;Executing internal audit activities in compliance with conventional audit guidelines and best practices;Assessing the reliability and integrity of financial and operating controls and compliance with set policies;Carrying out value adding and risk based audits in all Local Rights Programme Areas(LRPs)/Projects/Units/Functions and partners organizations as appropriate to verify adherence to AAI and donor policies and procedures, and laws and regulations of Kenya;Following up on responses from audited LRPs/ Units/Projects and Partners and report to the Country Director and Board Audit Committee on non-compliance;Liaising with external auditors on the annual audits and ensuring that recommendations in the audit reports are implemented;Acting as Secretary to the Audit Board Committee;Producing timely audit reports to LRPs/Functions/Units/Projects and Partners with recommendations aimed at strengthening the overall control environment;Presenting periodic assurance audit reports to the Audit Committee;Supporting and monitoring implementation of the Whistle Blowing Policy;Contributing to social audits and annual PRRP processes;Undertaking investigations on frauds and irregularities at management requests and follow up on regular audit findings;Assisting in the evaluation of the AAIK's performance and recommend changes to improve operational efficiency;Raise awareness of risk management through attendance of various forums in the organisation;Appointment to the position will be made from persons who :
Hold an MBA or Masters degree in social Sciences or their equivalent from a recognized University;Are Certified Public Accountants (CPA (K) or);Are members of relevant professional body e.g. ICPAK & IIAK.Have at least 7 years working experience in auditing function in an INGO or a large organization of which at least three(3) years must have been as Internal Auditor in AAIK or a comparable position with similar responsibilities in like organizations;Have a high degree of integrity and dependability;2. With support from the Department for International Development (DFID) through the visionary Disasters Emergency Preparedness Programme (DEPP) and in partnership with the Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities Network (CDAC-N) the Start Network is launching an ambitious suite of projects designed to develop decentralised approaches to capacity building and to improve the quality and speed of humanitarian response in countries at risk of natural disaster or conflict related humanitarian emergencies.
We are therefore looking for highly skilled, talented and dynamic individual to lead in the implementation of the Shifting the Power project in Kenya whose objective is to strengthen the capacity of at least 15 national and local humanitarian partner organisations for decision-making and leadership in humanitarian preparedness and response. This is a consortia programme implemented by 6 Partners: ActionAid, CAFOD, Oxfam, Tearfund, ChristianAid, and Concern Worldwide.
We are not only looking for skilled project managers with a track record of delivering results within tight timeframes; we also need a high level collaborator, with the ability to work with other brokers across organisational and project boundaries.
Job Description
Developing and implementing innovative and strategic programme frameworks with partners and the national steering committee.Representing programme work in external forums and networks on capacity development of local and national organizations and platforms for effective emergency preparedness and response.Promoting coherence in programme design between local, national and international work on humanitarian organizations capacity development and working with the International programme manager to ensure a coherent political position and direction across the implementing partners and consortium members.Designing and facilitating effective programme learning mechanisms on partners’ capacity development and bringing relevant strategic learning to inform the consortium and the Network.Overseeing development of practical resource materials, tools and guidelines for partner capacity development.Supporting partners and consortium members programmes to articulate ground-breaking local humanitarian alternatives, promote cross learning and sharing of best practices across the consortium and beyond.Ensuring effective capacity development and support systems for targeted local and national organisations and platforms.Mapping capacities across the partners and facilitating cross-consortium members’ exchanges, accompaniment programmes and peer to peer support.Overseeing the effective management of the project.Donor reporting.? The role-holder will be managed in line with ActionAid’s performance management system and manage budgets in line with AAIK finance systems and policies.Appointment to the position will be made from persons who have:
A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, policy development or it’s equivalent from a recognized University;A minimum of seven (7) years post-academic experience in organizational capacity development in humanitarian sector.Demonstrable experience in advocacy and campaigns on humanitarian assistance, disaster preparedness and emergency response.Demonstrable experience in building capacity of partners and staff on disaster preparedness and emergency response.Experience of managing partnership relationships; andUnderstanding of different donor requirements and ways of working.Key competencies:
