The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational, international development agency promoting creative and effective solutions to selected problems that impede social and economic development in parts of Africa, Europe, and Asia. 2. BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT “PROTECTING THE WELL-BEING AND STRENGTHENING RESILIENCE OF FRONTLINE HEALTH WORKERS”
The project Protecting the Well-being and Strengthening Resilience of Frontline Health Workers is a collaborative effort of Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and Johnson and Johnson Foundation (JJF). It aims to generate evidence based on the current psychosocial well-being and resiliency of FHWs working in resource-limited settings, with a geographical focus on East Africa.
The project is primarily based on three dimensions including:
a robust baseline study to explore burnout risk and the overall mental health challenges faced by FHWs working on the frontlines of COVID-19,
design and implementation of a psychosocial intervention to improve the psychosocial well-being of FHWs, and
evidence summarization and landscaping process to explore key insights, experiences, lessons learned, and the key actors in relation to implementing resilience-based programs and strengthening the resilience of FHWs in East Africa.
The immediate actions undertaken as part of this short-term response will help lay the ground for a follow-up phase where we will explore a longer-term human-centered design approach to identifying solutions to build resilience, reduce burnout and improve the psychosocial wellbeing and productivity of the frontline health workforce.
