Position Announcement: Health Systems Advisor I
Overview: Ipas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending preventable deaths and disabilities from unsafe abortions.
Through local, national and global partnerships, Ipas works to ensure women can obtain safe, respectful and comprehensive abortion care; including counseling and contraception to prevent unintended pregnancies.
The Health Systems Advisor I position located in our Kisumu office, will provide technical assistance in planning and implementing training and service delivery strategies for expanding access to comprehensive reproductive health and contraceptive services.
The position provides technical assistance to the Health System, Community Access and Research and Evaluation units as well as Ipas supported sites and providers and partners in designated counties.
The position works closely with County and Sub-County health offices to plan, support implementation and monitor Ipas service delivery and access objectives.
The position collaborates with other staff to develop technical studies, conducts facility and provider-based supportive supervision, ensures necessary supplies are available to provide services at facility level, ensures data is collected from all intervention facilities and trainings, analyzes data, and
develops reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Plans and organizes facility assessment and upgrades including providing comprehensive reproductive health and contraceptive services trainings, mentorship programs, and data collection to improve service delivery
- Participates in the development of training needs, agendas, and presentations for comprehensive reproductive health and contraceptive services trainings, selecting trainers and facilities, and conducting trainings
- Monitors training data to ensure an up-to-date database of trainers and attendees as well as to improve the process and outcome of trainings
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities including collection and submission of service statistics quarterly from service delivery sites, data verification (quality and accuracy checks) and community assessments
- Perform orientations and baseline assessments for facilities
- Ensure appropriate facilities are selected for interventions, they have appropriate access to service delivery training, and maintain mentoring relationship to ensure best practices are being implemented to improve performance
- Act as the liaison between Ipas and the County Health management teams to support linkage between demand generation and service provision
- In collaboration with relevant county and Ipas personnel, ensure that equipment, drugs and supplies are provided/available at health provision centers
- Document and disseminate best practices and lessons learnt in collaboration with the Health systems and Research and Evaluation unit
- Drafts donor proposals, presentations, and reports as required
- May manage or forecast expenditures for budgeting purposes
- Reports to Senior Advisors in reference to workflow, deadlines, reports, and projects
- Maintains relationships with regional service facilities and other non-profits/governments in-county as necessary
- Works with senior advisors, managers, directors, and other departments in reference to reports, planning, policies, and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine/Nursing
- Past experience in reproductive health projects and project management at county and community levels
- 3-4 years of experience required
- At least 1-2 years of experience working in health or medical field required
- Must work well in a multi-cultural environment
- Ability to analyze and prepare reports
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience working in a non-profit organization
- Project and budget management
- Past experience with Ministry of Health at county and sub-county levels
- Ability to travel 60%
