The USAID-funded Kenya Afya Jijini (Nairobi) Program will look to strengthen health and human capacity and increase overall health services through the expansion of quality HIV/AIDS services, focused Maternal, Newborn, Child Health (MNCH); Family Planning (FP); increasing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH); and Nutrition services and finally by strengthening County Health Systems. The Communications Specialist will lead implementation of the Communications Strategy, define target audiences, define the goals and create the content that will be communicated with each audience. Develop the methods of communication, and the frequency of communication.Implement the project’s communication strategyDevelop targeted communication messages and toolsUse existing project baseline and market research to develop, manage, and implement all phases of an effective communication strategy, including: using/conducting formative research in strategy design; designing, producing and pretesting media, messages and materials; implementing community mobilization strategies monitoring and evaluation of communications impactProduce and deliver marketing communication materialsThe position requires a competent and experienced person with the following attributes:BA in communication or journalism; Masters in international communication, international development, behavior change communication, or public health is strongly preferred.Understanding of widely accepted formative research, pretesting, and monitoring and evaluation methodologies for effective communication interventions.Demonstrated experience developing innovative and practical solutions to communication challenges in developing countries.Experience implementing with USAID funded projectsExcellent oral/written communication skills in EnglishMotivated self-starter with proven ability to work effectively as a team playerRegional experience and experience in the Kenyan country context strongly preferredAbility to travel within the country as needed
