Country: Kenya

Organization: DanChurchAid

Closing date: 10 Sep 2023

DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for an experienced and proactive Member Liaison and Digital Learning Designer to support DCA’s Learning Lab and our members of the Fabo Learning Community. The duty station is Nairobi at the DCA office. The position reports to the Learning Lab Lead and Head of Fabo Learning Community in Copenhagen, Denmark.

You will be part of the Learning Lab team in DanChurchAid which is a specialised team of ten professionals with different fields of expertise and educational backgrounds. Our team is dynamic, ambitious, and collaborative. We believe in empowering local change makers with learning design and learning technology. We facilitate this through the Fabo Learning Community, the ACTLearn (Fabo sub-community for ACT Alliance members) and within our own organisation (HQ and country offices).

As a member liaison you will be responsible for the contact and support to a portfolio of our Fabo member organisations in primarily East Africa (but not exclusively). You will also scope out and start conversations with potential new members. Additionally, you will represent Learning Lab (and Fabo) not only in the context of the DCA country office in Kenya but also more broadly with all DCA country offices in Africa. In your role as a digital learning designer, your responsibilities will include providing guidance for non-technical staff on digital learning design, supporting development of a wide range of digital learning resources, and assisting DCA colleagues and Fabo members with learning projects in general.

This role is physically located in DCA’s office in Nairobi, but your closest colleagues will be based in Denmark. As we all work closely together, you can expect a highly collaborative team that is online and accessible throughout the working day. To ensure the best cohesion in the team, you will travel to and work from our office in Copenhagen for one week once a year.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Liaison and focal point for a portfolio of Fabo Members (East Africa / Africa / Globally) to ensure smooth onboarding, engagement, and a successful member journey,

  • Outreach and identifying potential new Fabo members, and pitching Learning Lab and the Fabo Learning Community to new leads,

  • Advising project stakeholders and Fabo members on creative digital solutions and providing technical support on learning platform-related matters,

  • Presenting at and facilitating workshops, meetings, and other online events,

  • Supporting and assisting with learning design processes in the team,

  • Assorted support and administrative tasks related to courses on the Fabo Learning Platform and the development of the Fabo Learning Community as a whole.

We expect the following qualifications, skills, and experience from you:

  • At least bachelors’ degree (masters/post graduate qualifications preferred) in communication, adult education, digital design, business management or a related field,

  • 3+ years of proven experience with client relations management, digital/technical support, and development of learning designs,

  • High level of digital literacy and confidence as we use a wide variety of digital solutions,

  • Experience with business development, outreach, and customer service,

  • Excellent communications and presentation skills (written and spoken English),

  • Confidently work with all kinds of content that in collaboration with our Fabo members must be turned into different kinds of digital learning activities,

  • Experience from the development and humanitarian sector.

In terms of personal qualities, we expect you to:

  • Be a proactive colleague who takes initiative and follows through with tasks and potential leads,

  • Be a self-starter and be able to work independently with minimal supervision,

  • Enjoy having an outward-facing role and acting as a representative of Learning Lab and Fabo,

  • Take pride in delivering high-quality work and being accountable to your team and other stakeholders.

Learning Lab has various responsibilities within and outside DCA. Firstly, Learning Lab advises all DCA staff on effective learning in the different contexts we work. Moreover, Learning Lab is responsible for driving the three initiatives: Fabo Learning Community, ACTlearn Partnership and ACT Advocacy Academy. The first is by far the biggest and you can read more about it below. Lastly, Learning Lab also assists DCA and other Fabo member organisations with learning projects, where we drive all steps from framing to implementation.

The Fabo Learning Community is a learning network lead by DanChurchAid. The purpose of Fabo is to empower change-makers, whether individuals or organisations, to participate responsibly and effectively in social change. This empowerment comes from strengthening individual competences, cultivating peer-to-peer learning, and supporting primarily civil society organisations (“CSOs”) with effective learning processes, such as customizable learning resources, learning technology, learning design methodologies and cross-organisational collaboration. Fabo currently has thirty member organisations. You can read more on fabo.org.
