Typical duties are likely to include:
welcoming guests as they arriveallocating rooms to guestsgiving guests their keystaking and passing on messageshandling foreign exchangepreparing guests’ bills and taking paymentshelping guests with any special requests – such as storing valuables in the Property safe or luggage area, ordering taxis or booking theatre tickets.The reception desk has a computer to handle reservations, showing up-to-date information on the number and type of rooms available. Receptionists are responsible for inputting new information as guests make bookings or cancellations.A telephone switchboard is used to receive external calls and to take internal calls from Property rooms and from different parts of the Property.There is also a sales aspect to the role of a Property receptionist.
They may encourage a guest to upgrade to a better room, to stay longer, to eat in the restaurant, or to return to the Property, or another in the group, in the future, for a special occasion or event.In an emergency, the receptionists may help guests evacuate the building and call the emergency services.Front Office Executives need to be:
