USIU is seeking to recruit a qualified candidate for the position of Placement Officer.

Position Objective: Assist in sourcing for employment / internship / volunteer opportunities for students and alumni; provide professional and responsive career services to students, employers and alumni; work closely with the Head of Placement and Career Services to broaden and deepen relationships with employers

Key Responsibilities

The Placement Officer will assist the Head of Placement and Career services in the following areas:

Job Development / Marketing Outreach

Assist with the development of creative initiatives for marketing and promoting students and alumni to employers.Identify additional employers for outreachAssist with planning and implementing of strategies that encourage employers to hire students and alumni.Organize recruitment drives.Create and maintain a database of employers for all majorsEstablish and maintain contact with graduates and alumni to mentor current students and cultivate new employers.Compile and profile a comprehensive list of all graduate students highlighting employment progress and success storiesIdentify diverse placement opportunities and work with students to access placement.Provide up to date reports on student placement through regular semester reportsRepresent the University at conferences and external meetings where appropriateTo manage all aspects of the placement process including guiding, assisting and advising students, to recognize their skills and job requirements and to communicate with organizations providing placement opportunities.Provide individual/group CV and cover letter review and assistance.Coach students to develop short and long term job seeking strategies/career plans.Assist in planning and conducting specific group programs on career strategic planning and related topics.Assist with career services programming on a variety of career topics.Coordinate seminars/workshops on job seeking skills.Assist with program evaluation for program strengthening and diversity.Schedule, conduct and document exit interviews with graduatesDisseminate information on Jobs/internships/volunteer opportunities available for different majors to students through regular email updatesContribute to the annual review of placement handbooks, forms and employer information packs and other materials for staff, students and employers.Organize and run pre-placement sessions for outgoing students and debriefings for returning students through discussion, consideration and evaluation of personal and professional development through placement.Deliver presentations to prospective students and parents during orientation and open days and attend other relevant eventsCoordinate Career Services NewsletterDevelop the design and layout for the NewsletterDevelop content: write articles and solicit material from others.Survey employers, students and review periodicals to determine up to date topics of interestBachelor Degree in Social Science or Business Administration. Preference in  Human Resource and/or Psychology2 years of experience working with and/or knowledge of professions within the relevant discipline/fieldPrevious experience of customer/client contact especially establishing and developing effective links with companies in the relevant discipline/fieldExperience of teaching/negotiating with a range of peopleExcellent IT skill including word processing and use of databasesAbility to communicate effectively and professionally with a variety of peopleExcellent written and oral communication skills including report writingExcellent planning and organizational skillsMust be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the Placements office, and be willing to undertake external visitsMust be a team player and be able to negotiate and consult with all those engaged internally and externally within the placement spaceMust have a professional, friendly attitude and a willingness to helpMust be innovative and ‘think outside the box’If you have the requisite qualifications and experience and desire to work as a team member in a modern, progressive, international and multicultural institution where you can make a difference, please apply.
